Matcha Date Overnight Buckwheat Oats | 2 Ways

February 1, 2019 By julia

If easy is what you’re lookin’ for. Search no further.

This bowl of goodness is just a few easy steps away.

It’s packed with nutrients and energizing pizzazz!

Plant protein, antioxidants, and lots’a fibre make this a fantastical breakfast to fuel what ever your day has ahead.

You can even make this into grab and go Jules Fuel balls.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m a cereal entrepreneur, literally.

I started Jules Fuel in 2012 after I retired from 6 years on the Ski Cross World Cup tour with the National team. I used to bring a similar breakfast blend on the road with me, so I knew that I’d at least have a healthy breakfast. I decided to bag it up, hit up Farmer’s Markets and grocery stores to share my cereal with those in search of a healthy, quick, delish breaki!

The original (on the left) is the Quinoa Breakfast Blend aka quinoa oatmeal packed with superfoods!

If you want to make it yourself here’s what’s in it: quinoa, oats, goji berries, chia seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and raisins, that’s it.

This one needs 10 minutes of cooking, and you’re good to go (I always make the whole bag, or a week’s worth, so it’s ready to bowl up in the morning with my fave toppings).

The 2 new Jules Fuel cereals on the block are Matcha Date or Blueberry Cacao Overnight Buckwheat Oats.

These buckwheat oats bring the base of buckwheat, oats and a tiny bit of coconut sugar, and they’re topped off with either blueberry powder and cacao nibs, or matcha powder and date chunks (my personal fave).

There’s no cooking needed for these ones! Just soak these power oats overnight in your favourite plant milk (I love unsweetened vanilla soy or oat milk) and see ya in the AM!

I mean…. it’s too easy not to!

Of course, you can cook them if you want!

I’ve got both recipes for you here.

  1. Soak it
  2. The quick cook featuring bananas

Happy Breakfasting!!

How to Make an Aquafaba Whipped Cream Parfait | Blueberry Matcha | Raw Vegan

May 24, 2018 By julia

If you’re breakfast looks like this, your day is complete by 9am. This raw vegan aquafaba whipped cream parfait is taken to the next level with a snickers bar made by the lovely Laura.

And even though it’s whipped cream for breakfast, it’s still good for you.

But, how?

~ The snickers bar created by the raw vegan treat pros over at Little Tucker is raw, vegan and made with nuts, dates, some maple syrup… and it tastes heavenly because these girls got skills!! If you’re going to be at Veg Expo this weekend at the Vancouver Convention Centre, go say hi to Laura and the girls to sample some of their goodness.

~ The whipped cream is made of the magical ingredient, aquafaba. Yup, the juice of the chickpea, that’s right. You threw that down the drain without thinking twice before you read this, didn’t you? Don’t worry, I did too. Aquafaba creates a wonderfully stiff, yummy, and very low calorie alternative to your typical whip. It’s also a great egg-replacer in vegan baking (3 tbsp = 1 egg).  Who knew?!

~The base is made from my breakfast cereal, Jules Fuel. Matcha Date and Blueberry Cacao Overnight Buckwheat Oats that I soak in homemade hemp milk, or any kind of plant based milk kickin’ around. It’s packed to the rim with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, plant protein, and fibre. You can order it internationally from Vegan Supply, or locally at Spud Vancouver.

Layer it all up with some fresh berries and you’ve got yourself a true breakfast of champs.

You can get Jules Fuel overnight buckwheat oats (blueberry cacao, or matcha date flavour) online from anywhere in the world at Vegan Supply! Or, locally in the Vancouver/Whistler area from Spud online, or Be Fresh, Green Moustache, and any Whistler Grocery store. You can find the Little Tucker snickers bar here.

Not your typical parfait! Aquafaba whipped cream, matcha blueberry oats, and a raw vegan snickers bar to top it all off!
Author: Jules
Recipe type: breakfast
Serves: 2
Ingredients
  • ½ cup Jules Fuel Matcha Date Overnight Buckwheat Oats
  • ½ cup Jules Fuel Blueberry Cacao Overnight Buckwheat Oats
  • 1 cup plant-based milk of choice (I used this hemp milk)
  • Fresh berries
  • Little Tucker Raw Vegan Snickers Bar, chopped

  • Aquafaba Whipped Cream:
  • ¾ cup aquafaba/chickpea liquid (this is around the amount of liquid from a 398ml chickpea can)
  • ¼ cup coconut sugar
  • ½ tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
  1. In separate jars, soak ½ cup blueberry cacao Jules Fuel with ½ cup plant milk, and ½ cup matcha date Jules Fuel with the rest of the ½ cup of plant milk for at least 30 minutes (overnight if you can!!)
  2. Make Aquafaba Whipped Cream: add all whipped cream ingredients to an electric hand mixer with the whisk attachment. Mix on high for at least 5 minutes. The longer you mix, the stiffer it will become! Watch the magic happen.
  3. In 2 jars, scoop in one of the Jules Fuel oats, then some berries, then some whipped cream, then another layer of the other Jules Fuel oats, then go crazy with the whipped cream, and top it all off with the snickers bar.
Notes
Store extra whipped cream in the freezer, and use as you would 'cool whip'. Keeps for one month

Jules Fuel Buckwheat Bliss Balls | Blueberry Cacao or Matcha

March 10, 2018 By julia

Meet your new travelling adventure buddies. These Jules Fuel Buckwheat Bliss balls are packed with superfood goodness with a mega-dose of antioxidants.

On the plane, in a camelback or pocketed on a ski day… they’ll save you and your low energy anywhere, anytime.
And they’re SO simple to make.
You’ll find some date ball recipes on here already like these Maca Date Balls or Hemp Coconut Balls , but these ones are special cuz they’re Jules Fuelled ;0)

My cereal company recently turned into a line of superfood breakfasts. The original (Jules Fuel Quinoa Superfood Oatmeal) has been breaking fasts since 2013. But, just last month 2 new Buckwheat Overnight Oat products graced the grocery store shelves!

Your choice of…Matcha Date Overnight Buckwheat Oats, or Blueberry Cacao Overnight Buckwheat Oats.

Both are bursting with antioxidants, plant protein, fibre, phytonutrients and flava flave. On the bag I tell guide you to soak your serving of buckwheat oats overnight in your favourite mason jar with your favourite plant-based mylk.
But today we’re switching it up a bit.

Adding dates to the mix allows you to roll it up into a bunch of 2-bite Jules Fuel balls for all your on-the-go energizing needs.
The buckwheat groats stay in tact to add a satisfying crunch to the texture, and the only thing you have to do is blend and roll. Triple (or quadruple) this recipe and keep them in your freezer for months!

Benefits:

  • Buckwheat is packed with all essential amino acids, creating a protein packed grain that gives you long lasting energy and regulates blood sugar levels by mimicking the action of insulin. It’s also alkaline to your body, and packed with B vitamins (to help your nervous system function optimally).
  • Blueberry & Cacao are both incredibly high in antioxidants to deactivate free radicals in your body (which are the culprits that lead to disease) plus counteract pollution and unstable molecules. This all leads to longevity by slowing the aging process! Antioxidants also help decrease cholesterol and fat accumulation (gotta love em’)! Cacao, which is the raw form of chocolate, is also well-known mood enhancer.
  • Matcha is highly beneficial ground up green tea leaves. It contains L-theanine, which is known to aid in cancer treatments by helping fight tumours. It’s way up there in the antioxidant count, highly energizing without the caffeine jitters, revs up your metabolism and detoxifies naturally. At the same time as being energizing, it calms the mind and relaxes the body. Plus, it’s rich in vitamins, fibre and chlorophyll.
  • Dates are mother nature’s candy (thanks Ma!). Since they’re incredibly high in minerals and vitamins, plus packed with fibre, they’re the best option for sweetening anything that needs some sweetness.

Blueberry Maple (Jules Fuel) Quinoa Oatmeal

August 16, 2017 By julia

A hearty, delicious and easy breakfast packed with superfoods to fuel any adventure.

I can’t believe it’s been over a year since I started Hooked On Plants, and I still haven’t posted about my breakfast cereal!

Well, now you know, I have my own organic breakfast cereal AKA: Jules Fuel.

What’s in it?

The whole quinoa seed, oats, goji berries, chia seeds, flax seeds, raisins, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds, and….

THAT’S IT, THAT’S ALL.

No added sugar, unprocessed, takes 10 minutes to make 6 servings, and keeps for 10 days in the fridge when it’s done.

You can grab your bag of fuel in any Whistler grocery store, a few across Vancouver, and online from Spud.ca!

(Score $20 of free groceries by using CRVAN-MURJUB at the check out 😉

Yes, Jules Fuel is packed with the goods, but then you add Hares’ Farm organic, from just down the road, massive, juicy, firm, sweet blueberries to the mix and you have yourself one of the most nutrient-dense bowls of breakfast I can think of!

These blueberries though….

I mean, berries are good, but these ones are from another planet. I eat them by the handful. And I’m more than OK with that.

These babies are SO fresh and ready to buy by the 10 lb box for only one more week, so get your order in!

Waking up to a bowl of this goodness while on a camping trip has to be one of my favourite things in this life.

Benefits:

  • Jules Fuel is low glycemic, high antioxidant, fibre-rich, packed with 8 whole food ingredients and has all the amino acids needed. This stuff will sustain your energy for hikes, biking missions, workout classes, paddle board sessions, or just on one of those days you really need to use your brain. You’ll get omegas from the chia and flax seeds (for your brain), iron from the pumpkin seeds and raisins (for your blood), complete plant protein from the quinoa (for your hair, nails and healing), vitamin E from the sunflower seeds (for your skin), antioxidants from the goji berries (for staying young), selenium and zinc from the oats (for warding off disease)…plus sooo many more vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients from these whole food ingredients.
  • Blueberries have a mega-antioxidant content, which helps our bodies combat disease and literally SLOWS the aging process (can I get a what what!? YES). Getting your blueberries from a local, organic farm like Hares’ Farm, means they’re even more nutrient-dense because of the minimal travel time. Plus, since blueberries are so delicate, conventional berries have to be sprayed even more than your typical harder-skinned fruit, so buying organic is extra important.
  • Maple syrup is one of the best sweeteners you can use. It’s low on the glycemic index, meaning it won’t spike your blood sugar as quickly as even honey, or sugar of any kind. The slower release of glucose into your system gives your body more time to assimilate the nutrients it comes with. Plus, it’s Canadian and delicious. Win win win.

Blueberry Maple Quinoa Oatmeal

Serves: 6

Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag of Jules Fuel quinoa breakfast blend
  • 1 cup (or 2!) Hares’ Farm organic blueberries (only 1 more week to order fresh 10 lb boxes for $45!)
  • Drizzle of maple syrup per bowl

Directions:

  1. Non-soak method:
    • Pour contents of Jules Fuel and the blueberries into a pot.
    • Add 2 cups of water, and bring to a boil.
    • Stir, then simmer for 10 minutes
  2. Soaking method (this will make the Jules Fuel nutrients even more bi0-available by starting the sprouting process and removing the enzyme inhibitors):
    • Soak 2 cups of Jules Fuel (contents of one bag) in a pot overnight in 3 cups of water
    • In the morning, add blueberries, then bring to a boil.
    • Stir, then simmer for just 7 minutes!
  3. Serve in your favourite bowl with a drizzle of maple syrup.
  4. Other Jules Fuel variations:
    • Top with coconut yogurt, apple sauce, jam, or nut butter of your choice
    • Cook it with:
      • Sweet banana: 1-2 mashed bananas & 1-2 tbsp molasses
      • Peachy: peach chunks
      • Choco peanut butter: 1 tbsp peanut butter & 1 tbsp cacao powder
      • Chai spice
      • Cinnamon, turmeric, nutmeg
      • Any chopped fruit!
      • Date chunks
      • Your favourite nuts
      • More oats to make a bigger batch

🌱 SKIN LOVING TIPS ⤵️ From a simple is bet 🌱 SKIN LOVING TIPS ⤵️
From a simple is better, 30 somethin’, long routine avoiding kinda gal…who wants to support elastin & boost collagen 🤷‍♀️

I’ve had an interesting relationship with my skin, especially in high school.
Did so much to try to manage it…accutane…birth control pills.👎🏼

The biggest skin game-changer for me was going vegan 7 years ago & ditched the dairy especially.
My skin was NOTICEABLY less inflamed (no more hormones coming from my food).

I’m not ‘use a million products’ kinda gal, but now at 34, I guess it’s time to start giving a little extra attention to the skin care regime 😆

🌱 Lifestyle tips + products I’m loving right meow 🌱

#1: nutrition: eat whole plant foods packed with fibre & water content. Minimize the processed foods & sugar. Focus on plant protein from legumes, organic soy, seeds (add a little @Complement Chocolate Protein to your lattes)

#2: support your gut: focus on 🌱 diversity, fermented foods, and add pre-biotics and postbiotics to your life (love @Complement Gut Nurture)

#3: greens: pack your smoothie with as much as possible, top everything with sprouts, add a greens powder to your life (most potent: @complement Daily Greens)

#4: antioxidants! From plants, especially berries. Amp it up with functional mushrooms (hello, @staywyldorganics)

#5: nutrient support: take these 8 skin & hair-supporting essentials (B12, vegan D3, K2, zinc, selenium, magnesium, DHA/EPA omegas, iodine…all in @complement’s daily vegan minty multi)

#6: creams & things:
I’m a new, huge fan of @puritywoodsinc Dream, Eye,Night Creams, and Elastin Serum.
Created by vegans at the @art_ofantiaging.
They use Maple Leaf and other amazing organic plant organic ingredients specifically for skin elasticity and collagen production support.
And, oh my lawwwrd it smells so fresh & citrusy 👌 My skin is feeling noticeably smoother after a month of this!
